Feeding Your Pet Bird
Petra M. Burgmann, DVM
ISBN 0-8120-1521-5
No matter what bird owning stage you are at, you NEED this book! It is great for beginners as well as for experienced bird owners.
This book is excellent.
It has two sections for everything. There is the here is the quick nutrition overview for people who want to understand but don't wanna go really in depth, and then there is the very in depth everything explained section. Excellent!
The most important things about this book are:
- It has a list of all important vitamins and minerals and lists which 5 to 10 food products have the highest concentration of each. And *no* apple and lettuce are NOT there!
- They have pictures of birds that have been deprived of different nutrients. These are nasty pictures and a good knock it to you to make sure owners remember how important a good diet is.
- Chapter 9 is "Diet As IT Relates To Specific Species" Need I say more?
- The rest of the book is very informative too, it is easy to look up info, pictures have good captions and are good quality, and she shows that some situtations that some people might think are "normal" (like beak overgrowth) could actually be from a vitamin deficiency.
