Parrot in Winter
by Antonia Stampfel
This article originally appeared in SQUAWK, the newsletter of the Big Apple Bird Association and is reprinted with permission.
Snowdrifts on my window sill
Winter morning, cold and still
Parrot looked me in the eye
Did she want to fly?
"Do you wish you could fly South?"
Parrot kissed me on the mouth
Just as if she'd never heard
Such a doubting word.
